How to Wrap a Mug… But Make It Fancy ✨

Let's Learn how to wrap an awkward shaped item such as a mug.  With a few simple folds, you can transform an everyday mug into a beautifully wrapped present that looks thoughtful, professional and extra special... Let's win at gifting!

In this tutorial, I’ll show you one of my favourite ways to wrap a mug, I'm using our party cat wrapping paper but you can use any design you love. It’s surprisingly simple once you know the trick, and it’s perfect for birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or just because.

What you’ll need

Your gift (in our example a mug)

Wrapping paper (I’m using our party cat wrapping paper)

Double-sided tape

Scissors

Ribbon

Step 1: Measure and cut your wrapping paper

First we need to measure, start by measuring the width, you need x4 of the products width.

Then measure x 3-4 vertically (I personally prefer x 3, i tried both and very much up to personal preference.

Then simply cut the paper to size.

Step 2: Make the base

Let's Make the base, by simply folding over a section, wide enough for the product to sit in.

Step 3: Create the fancy folds

Next, fold over and make a lip, the width needs to be wide enough for a piece of double sided tape.

Step 4: Fold the Sheet in half

Step 5: Fold the Sheet in half again

Step 6: Cut each base section to the fold like this...

Step 7: Then Tape the base and lip

Step 8: Peel the Lip section

* Cut the base section of the lip, see below

Step 9: Fold back over and stick

Step 10: Fold the Base

Open up the bag to form a box shape, now it is time to stick the base in position, starting with the none tapes section fold them inwards and then stick the two tapes sections to secure.

Step11: The Fun Bit

Pop your gift inside the bag and secure the opening.

Step 12: Fold the lid over once and add the ribbon like so...

Fold over 2-3 more times to secure

Step 13: Tie the Ribbon

Step 14: Ta Da!

We did it! Grab a cute card and you're all done and ready to gift!

Thoughts!

Mugs are one of those awkward gifts that can be difficult to wrap neatly. This method hides the unusual shape beautifully and creates a gift that looks almost too pretty to open, this method would word for all sorts of awkward shape gifts so is a really useful method.

The wrapping paper

For this tutorial I used our party cat paper, I love matching cards and papers to the gift or recipient, our paper has worked really well, this design is a 120 gsm which gives love crisp edges, and strong enough to hold it's shape.

Whether you’re wrapping a mug, books, candles or other small gifts, playful illustrated paper makes every present feel that little bit more personal, so make sure to select the right one for the job!
